What is Sil
Competitive English Test

The SiL English Test 2025 is open to all students from Year 1 to Year 9 (Primary Key Stages 1,2 and Secondary Key Stage 3) worldwide.
Note: All participants will get a certificate and detailed feedback
UK based Assessment

- SiL is aligned with the National Curriculum (England)*, the test focuses on essential linguistic skills — Reading, Grammar, and Vocabulary and allows students to measure their attainment relative to UK based learners.
* Outside the UK the National Curriculum for England is often called the British or UK Curriculum.
Quality Assured

The test is designed by Graduates of the University of Oxford and is quality controlled, processed and hand marked in the UK.
Detailed feedback

- SiL offers detailed result assessments for students, enabling then to identify their key strengths and areas for improvement.
- SiL supports teachers and schools with in-depth performance reports to enhance their language teaching and summative assessments.

Eligibility
The The SiL English Test 2025 is open to all students worldwide, from Years 1 to Year 9 (Grades 2 to 10).

Test Date
The test will be between the 19th and 23th May 2025 and takes approximately 45 to 75 minutes to complete.
Years 1 to 3 - 45 Minutes
Years 5 to 7 - 1 hour
Years 8 to 9 - 75 mins
A fixed timeslot will be assigned and confirmed closer to the test date.
Once accepted this cannot be changed.

Test type
We offer two test types for participants:
Option 1: Online at Home
• Participants can take the test online from the comfort of their home.
• They must log into Zoom for invigilation*.
• Requirements: A laptop with a webcam, a stable internet connection, and a quiet room.
*Note: All UK invigilators hold current Enhanced UK DBS. to ensure safeguarding.
Option 2: At School (Paper-based or Online)*
• Participants can take the test at their school or tuition centre.
• The test can be either paper-based or online.
• Teachers at the school or centre will choose the type of test and will handle the invigilation.
*Note: This option is only available if the participant's school is conducting the test.
